Jean-Christophe Garzia - viola

Biography

Coming from a family of musicians, Jean-Christophe began his musical studies at the National School of Music of Mulhouse.
He obtained a First Prize for violin at the National Conservatory of Grenoble in the class of Flora Elphège and after that a first Prize of Violin, Viola, Chamber Music and History of Music at the National School of Music of Aulnay-sous-Bois receiving lessons from teachers such as Jean Lenert, Olivier Grimoin, Georges Boyer or Claude Henry Joubert.
He entered the National Conservatory of Music and Dance of Paris in Jean Sulem's viola class and in the Chamber Music class of Christian Ivaldi and Ami Flammer, where he obtained his final Diplome in 2000. At the same time Jean-Christophe follows the "String Quartet Improvement Course" of the Ysaye Quartet at the National Conservatory of Paris.
He has participated in numerous Chamber Music Festivals (France, Italy, Germany, Turkey, Switzerland, Morocco ...), and played alongside Christian Ivaldi, Vahan Mardirossian, Christophe Coin, Sol Gabetta, Shani Diluka, Ami Flammer, Diego Pagin, Katharine Gowers, the Chagall Quartet, the Artis Ensemble of Monaco ...

He joined the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra in 2000, before being appointed at the SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden/Freiburg in 2002 where he was named third soloist in 2008.

With his wife, Hedy Kerpitchian, he founded the "Philharmonie de Poche", a variable ensemble made up of musicians from the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra and the SWR Symphonieorchester Stuttgart.

Since 2017, Jean-Christophe Garzia is professor of viola at the High School of Arts of the Rhine and Conservatory of Strasbourg.
