Born into a musicians' family in a belgian region which knows how to preserve the rich heritage of wind bands, Pierre Xhonneux has pursued his musical studies at the " Institut Supérieur de Musique et de Pédagogie " in Namur, in the class of J-L Votano.
Laureate of the Competition "Dexia Classics", he also participated successfully in many other competitions (Pacem in Terris, Debussy, Aeolus, ARD2012, Freiburg, Gent2013,… ) and in 2009 he entered in «Perfectionnement » (3rd cycle) in the class of Nicolas Baldeyrou in Paris.
Open-minded towards a wide musical repertory, he likes to perform in a great variety of ensembles: a clarinet quartet , a wind (or string-)quintet, a piano trio ClariNord, octet I Solisti del Vento (Belgium) or more recently the Oslo Kammerakademi (Norway). In 2012, attentive to complete his musical education, he started a Post-Master in historical clarinet in the Gent Conservatory Belgium (prof. V. Casale).
Invited in the recent years to perform recitals at the Festival Musiq3, Flagey in Brussels as well as Bozar, MIM, the Concerts du printemps in Val-Dieu, the Durbuyssimo Festival in Belgium, the prestigious Heidelberger Frühling Festival, Podium Festival in Esslingen, Valdres Festivalen in Norway, FestiVal d’Anniviers in Switzerland, Konzerthaus Berlin, Hamburg, London, Sweden, it is in Belgium, Sweden, Norway, or on tour with Oslo Kammerakademi in Germany and Azeirbaidjan, and in many other places that he will perform during the season 2018-2019.
In October 2009, he was appointed E-flat clarinet-Solo in the Liège Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (dir. Ch. Arming - Belgium), and in September 2011, Assistant in Chamber Music and in the Clarinet Class at « IMEP » in Belgium.
Since January 2015, he is the new E-flat clarinet in the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra (dir. V. Petrenko) and since september 2015, the clarinet teacher at Barratt Due Musikkinstitutt in Oslo.
During the season 2017-2018, Pierre will be the guest Principal Clarinet of Malmö Symfoniorkester (Sweden).
