Vania Tantikova was born in Rousse, Bulgaria. She was a student of Prof. Dimitar Tchilikov at the Sofia Music Academy.
After graduating with honors she continued her education in Prof. Diemut Poppen's viola class at the Musikhochschule des Saarlandes in Saarbrücken. Vania Tantikova has won different music competitions, amongst them the Chamber Music Competition “Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart” held by the National Bulgarian Radio and the National Competition for Strings in Kjustendil, Bulgaria, which she won twice. Since 1998 she lives in Cologne and works as a freelancer at renowned orchestras such as WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, Hessian Radio Symphony Orchestra Frankfurt, Gürzenich-Orchestra Cologne, Cologne Chamber Orchestra and Düsseldorfer Symphoniker. As a member of the phoenix ensemble Cologne, the 4stringsquartett and the ensemble “Die ExtraVaganten” she has played in Germany, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Spain, Portugal and Switzerland. Vania Tantikova is a member of the Festival Orchestra in Mãrvao (Mãrvao International Music Festival) and the Festival Orchestra in Rousse (March Music Days). She contributed to a CD published in 2004 by the label col legno. The CD featured works for viola solo and soprano by Dimitri Terzakis and was produced in collaboration with the Saarländischer Rundfunk.
