Dimitri Mestdag

Biography

Dimitri studied at the music academy in Harelbeke and at the School of Arts in Ghent in the class of Yf Bourry. He obtained a master's degree in oboe, cor anglais and chamber music at the Brussels Conservatory, studying under Paul Dombrecht and Alex Van Beveren. He attended master classes given by Alain Denis, Ingo Goritzki and Thomas Indermühle and studied at the Rotterdam Conservatory under Emanuel Abbühl.

Dimitri won a first prize in Pro Civitate (now Belfius Classics), and in 1996 he won the very first prize for English horn in the Tenuto competition. At the concert performed by the prizewinners of that competition, he performed the Belgian première of the Concerto for English Horn and orchestra written by Ned Rorem. The concert was recorded for radio and television.

Today he performs regulary as a guest musician with various orchestras and ensembles including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Bamberger Symphoniker and the Hong Kong Philharmonic.

Since 1996 he has been the cor anglais soloist at the Royal Flemish Philharmonic in Antwerp with which he has performed several times as a soloist.
